The Police Reform Bill has just finished its committee stage in the House of Commons and is due to be debated by MPs again in March. It includes clause 152 (previously called clause 151) which, if passed, will mean instead of prosecutors applying immediately to the courts for the arrest of a war crimes suspect, they will first have to get the prior agreement of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for the case to be heard.
This will cause unnecessary delay in time sensitive operations and could result in political intereference.
The situation is now critical. We are asking everyone to contact their MPs this new letter to ask them to sign an amendment no 2, leaving out clause 152 which has been tabled by Ann Clwyd MP and signed by several MPs. Find out more here.
